Here ye here ye lol
I've got something to tell you...
Big news. My EP, Sore Loser, is coming out on Feb 28th. Ahhhhhhh!
You’ll get one new song, and three songs you’ve already heard. It’s really exciting because I’ve been working on this fucking EP since early 2019 and now it’s gonna be out in the world as a complete piece of work. I’m so proud of it, even though it feels impossible to conceptualise as an achievement because my brain has a habit of ignoring success when it happens to me. The goal posts always move. I’m trying to get better at celebrating things.

The new song is called Knock Yourself Out. It’s like a pop girlie that time travelled to the wild west. Western and country moitfs juxtaposed against modern pop songwriting. I was listening to a lot of Chris Isaak at the time. The story follows a friendship breakup, dissecting the confusing aftermath of discovering someone you once trusted has been talking shit and telling lies about you to cover their own ass. It’s the moment you give up on salvaging the relationship after being left on read for a month; acceptance that the other person would rather ghost than try and mend things.
Production wise, the song moves with a steady rhythm, like the slow trot of a horse or chug of a steam train. It’s reclined, but a little bitter. Sipping whiskey, neat, on the dusty front porch as the sun slowly meanders towards the horizon. I hope you feel transported when you listen.
Josh and I drove out to Churchill Park yesterday to take some photos and shoot video for the Spotify canvas (above). I made some fake blood out of paint because I didn’t have any red food colouring and smeared it over a kitchen knife. I wobbled around the cow-patted, pot-holed fields while Josh squatted to get low angle shots. It was fun, and the photos came out so well. I love shooting things DIY because it leads to so many silly, magic moments that wouldn’t be possible on a structured set. Plus, it’s just a bazillion times better creating things with people you love.
It would mean the world to me if you pre-save the EP, link here.
And tell your friends.
Yay.
Ok, bye xx
